Response: For a long time my parents didn't let me have my phone at night. I had to put it in the kitchen. My parents did not want me to stay up at night on my phone. They thought it would help me sleep better. But now I have my phone at night and I still go to bed at the same time.

Reflection: Sometimes think they are taking something away to help you but it really doesn't matter. You weren't going to do it anyway.

In “The Interlopers” by Saki, Ulrich and Georg view each other as interlopers, outsiders intruding on their land and their lives. Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

  Prompt: I had experienced being an outsider when I transferred to a new school mid-year, where people already had their circle and routine. I felt like a stranger and as if I was intruding in a world with no room for me. That sense of isolation made it hard to connect with other individuals and encouraged me to retreat further. Eventually, though, a classmate of mine began including me in group activities and conversations, and this helped gradually to erode the wall of invisibility around me. As in The Interlopers, that change of heart from viewing others as strangers to viewing common humanity changed the emotional weather and allowed for the building of a new sense of community.
